The "Armed Michel" Identity of Ahmadia Jabrayilov in the Context of the Second World War

Abstract

This article examines the life and activities of Ahmadia Jabrayilov, an Azerbaijani combatant distinguished by his extraordinary life trajectory and heroism during the Second World War. It provides a detailed account of his capture during the war, his escape from a Nazi camp, and his subsequent relocation to France, where he actively participated in the French Resistance under the alias "Armed Michel." The study highlights his involvement in various covert operations, his actions against enemy forces, and his bravery in rescuing civilians, particularly children, supported by factual evidence. Furthermore, the article addresses the recognition he received from France through high state honours, as well as the difficult phase of his life after returning to the Soviet Union following the war. The findings demonstrate that Ahmadia Jabrayilov is not only a nationally significant figure but also an internationally recognised hero, whose life represents a vivid example of patriotism, resilience, and humanitarian values.
