Adil Babirov’s Prelude-Scherzo represents a significant example of the successful synthesis between Azerbaijani national music traditions and European classical forms. The work unites the lyrical expressiveness of the prelude with the energetic, dynamic character of the scherzo, forming a coherent dramaturgical structure enriched by both musical worlds. Babirov combines mugham intonations, national rhythmic elements, and melodic flexibility with the harmonic language and formal principles of European classical–romantic music, thereby creating an original sound palette. The recurring thematic motives reinforce the artistic idea and demonstrate how national musical identity can exist harmoniously within Western compositional frameworks. The composition not only strengthens the expressive potential of Azerbaijani music but also serves as a valuable pedagogical and performative example within contemporary piano literature. Overall, Prelude-Scherzo embodies Babirov’s artistic mission: integrating tradition and innovation while presenting national musical thinking through a universal musical language.
